The only real competitor (based in Europe) is based on the 4G Cellular Network. The 4G chips are energy intensive, produce quite a bit of heat requiring active cooling, and location dependent.
The Halcyon Network uses CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) to achieve low-power communication. Transmitting with Spread Spectrum Modulation and a low data rate (0.3-50kbits/s) the Halcyon Network is able to achieve low-power transmission over long ranges, while not needing any cooling even in hot weather.
Superior Terrain Penetration & Long Range
Using sub-gigahertz frequencies, the Halcyon Network can easily penetrate any terrain you throw at it.
4G Cellular networks require you to be between 1-3 miles of a cell tower, causing issues in remote locations, further reduced by obstacles in the way. The Halcyon Network has a max range of 10 miles* and minimally reduced range by terrain and other obstacles. The Halcyon Network also has unparalleled indoor capabilities, easily penetrating walls, keeping you connected no matter where you are.
No Expensive Cellular Subscriptions or Off-Site Servers
Using the 915mHz unlicensed US band, there is no need to pay for an expensive internet connection.
